Timely Response to Flood Victims in Borno and Adamawa States Nigeria

In September 2024, the release of water from a dam in Maiduguri caused devastating flooding across Maiduguri, Borno, and Adamawa states, displacing thousands and causing significant property and livelihood losses. In response, the Cardinal Onaiyekan Foundation for Peace (COFP) launched an intervention to assist the hardest-hit communities in Demsa LGA, Adamawa State, and Jere, Borno State. Despite difficult access, the Foundation and its team of COFP Fellows worked tirelessly to provide livelihood support to victims. In Adamawa, 40 individuals and their families benefited, while in Borno, 81 households received cash grants ranging from N10,000 to N50,000 to help them rebuild their lives and address immediate needs. Beneficiaries expressed deep gratitude for the timely intervention, highlighting COFP’s commitment to promoting peaceful coexistence and supporting communities in crisis.
