2025 World Children’s Day, “My Day, My Right,”
In commemoration of the 2025 World Children’s Day, observed annually on 20 November, the Cardinal Onaiyekan Foundation for Peace (COFP) organized a free medical outreach for children in underserved communities within the Lugbe axis of the FCT on November 20, 2025. Guided by the year’s theme, “My Day, My Right,” the initiative emphasized the importance of safeguarding children’s rights, wellbeing, and access to basic healthcare.
The outreach provided free medical services to over 300 rural children from the locality. Chief Nuhu Dauda, the Mai Angwa of the community gladly welcomed the COFP team and thanked them for choosing his community. Addressing the children and parents, COFP’s Executive Director, Rev. Sr. Agatha Chikelue, DMMM, explained the purpose of the outreach and encouraged orderly participation, assuring the children of snacks alongside treatment while the medical team of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, lab scientist, COFP team and its volunteers all jointly delivered quality care services. Parents expressed gratitude, noting visible relief among their children. The outreach also highlighted the need for well-equipped Primary Health Care Centres and adequate staffing to ensure sustained access to medical services in the community.
