Cardinal Onaiyekan Retires

After hitting the age of 75 in January 2019 as well as marking his 50th priestly anniversary (1969- 2019) in August 2019, His Eminence, John Cardinal Olorunfemi Onaiyekan, the President & Founder of COFP Foundation retires as the Catholic Archbishop of Abuja with the installation of his successor, Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama on December 5th 2019. This means that the administrative work of the Archdiocese of Abuja Nigeria now rests on the shoulders of the new Archbishop of Abuja.

Understanding that as the Prince of the Church, he cannot retire from the service of God and humanity, His Eminence, Cardinal Onaiyekan poured his gratitude to God for the numerous friends, good health, graces and mercies which he enjoyed during his tenure as the Bishop of Abuja. He promised to continue to dedicate more of his time, energy and resources to the service of God in every way possible by being a tireless advocate for justice and peace.
