Delegation from the German Bishops’ Conference Visits the Foundation
One of the key activities that the Cardinal Onaiyekan Foundation for Peace (COFP) started with early this year was welcoming the distinguished delegation from the German Catholic Bishops’ Conference on January 11, 2025, at its headquarters in Abuja. The high-level delegation was led by the Catholic Bishop of Augsburg, Most Rev. Dr. Bertram Johannes Meier, in the company of Ulrich Poner, Dr. Tobit Loevenich, Secretary to the Conference and Ulrich Bobrugv. The delegation was warmly received by the Executive Director of COFP, Rev. Sr. Agatha Chikelue DMMM, alongside her team, the Deputy Director, Rev. Fr. Boniface Neibo, Nicholas Dike – Program Officer; and Tope Bello – Communications Officer.
The visit featured a robust discussion on the state of the nation and the continent of Africa. Emphasis was laid on what different entities are doing to address the ugly situation and this gave the COFP the opportunity to elaborate more on its interventions in the areas of enhancing peace and transformative development in Africa. Both parties acknowledged the need to work together and thus, explored possible ways of engaging in a strategic partnership in order to sustain and scale up the impact of the ongoing initiatives. In a gesture that deepened the symbolic interaction during the visit, the delegation further paid a courtesy call to His Eminence, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, at his residence.
