COFP’s Executive Director Participating in a High-Level Forum on the Role of Faith in Advancing Positive Outcomes for Children, Families, and Communities
As one of the panelists during the Multi-Religious and Multi-Stakeholder High-Level Forum on the Role of Faith in Advancing Positive Outcomes for Children, Families, and Communities held from 26-27 March 2024 at the Church Centre for the United Nations, New York USA, the Executive Director of the Cardinal Onaiyekan Foundation for Peace (COFP), Rev. Sr Agatha Chikelue who also received an International award of Women of Excellence in Multireligious Action at the event for her role in spearheading women of faith in the advancement of human rights, peace and security, and sustainable development examined the realities that children, families and communities face in both open and hidden practices of abuse and exploitation and the role that both religious leaders and communities should play in preventing violence and harmful practices that are mostly fueled by social and gender norms, misinterpretation of faith teachings and past, recurring or emerging conflict situations.
In her presentation, Sr. Chikelue gave practical examples of how religious leaders at the frontlines of these situations are intervening and should intervene in collaboration with other stakeholders for more effective results.
