Sr. Agatha Chikelue Joins in the Celebration of the 2024 Golden Rule Day and the Commemoration of World Interfaith Harmony Week
As part of the Foundation’s effort in promoting interfaith collective action in Africa by fostering peace, human dignity, development, and preservation of the environment, and also to counter hate speech, violence, and xenophobia, the Executive Director of COFP, Sr. Agatha Chikelue participated as one of the key speakers at the above event which focused on the Vital Roles of Religious Leaders and Faith Inspired Organizations in Global, National and Local Affairs on the Occasion of the Celebration of the 2024 Golden Rule Day and Commemoration of World Interfaith Harmony Week in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia: Africa’s 2024 G20 Agendas, from April 15-16, 2024.
During her speech, Sr Agatha Chikelue stressed that, with all that is confronting Africa recently, we cannot but agree that the world is in dire need of interfaith cooperation and harmony more than ever. She emphasized that lack of peace and security are the major problem facing almost the entire continent of Africa and that this problem is mainly a question of good governance and management of human and natural resources. She further calls on all government to give adequate room to religious institutions and leaders to collaborate with them since they cannot do the work effectively alone understanding that the same members of their religious communities are also the citizens of the nation.
In the same manner, Sr Agatha Chikelue participated at the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation’s Catholic Sisters Initiative’s grantees, partners, and key stakeholders convening at the Taj Pamodzi Hotel Lusaka Zambia from May 29-31, 2024. During this event, Sr Agatha and other participants discussed extensively and come out with concrete actions on the need to embracing a shared vision fostering opportunities for partnerships, engaging in dialogue to deepen understanding and practice of synodality and the power of networks and collaboration for the common good.
